Bill Harasty wins Bates Award 4.20.2018

ACerS Pittsburgh Section presented the William S. Bates Award to Section Member Bill Harasty on Friday, April 20, 2018, at the Spouses Night Dinner, held at the Springfield Grille in Mars, PA. Toastmasters were Curt Zimmer and Glenn McIntyre.The award recognizes individuals who further the efforts of the Pittsburgh Section as well as the local community.  Bill has been active with the Section since the late 90’s and has served in various positions.  In addition to being an officer, he has been Chairman of the Bleininger Award program and golf chair for many years.  Bill is the Pelletizing Product Manager at Mars Mineral.Bates, for whom the award is named, was heavily involved in the Society. He was a member of the Section for 48 years and served as Section counselor for 25 years.

Technical Meeting

Future City Competition
www.futurecitypittsburgh.org The National Engineers Week Future City Competition offers 7th and 8th grade students a resourceful way to learn about engineering. The Pittsburgh Section presents students with a cash award for “The best use of ceramics” in their displays. The judging is based on the specific inclusion of ceramic materials in the model (and the ability to identify them) and the knowledge of the group (or spokes member) of how ceramics/materials would be used in their city of the future.

Scholarship The J. The Albert Victor Bleininger Memorial Award
The Pittsburgh Section presents this award for distinguished achievement in the field of ceramics. The Pittsburgh Section established this award in honor of one of its founders, A Charter Member and early President of The American Ceramic Society and one who contributed richly to the development of ceramics and the ceramic industry.
