This award recognizes individuals who foster international cooperation between the American Ceramic Society and the European Ceramic Society, in demonstration of both organizations’ commitment to work together to better serve the international ceramics community.

The European Ceramic Society (ECerS) – American Ceramic Society (ACerS) Joint Award recognizes individuals who foster international cooperation between the American Ceramic Society and the European Ceramic Society, in demonstration of both organizations’ commitment to work together to better serve the international ceramics community.

Eligible are members of ECerS or ACerS who have provided sustained leadership and service furthering the cooperation between the two societies. This can include, for example, organizing joint sessions at meetings or promoting both Societies positive contributions to the ceramic and glass engineering and sciences.
The award shall be presented in alternate years, if any candidate be worthy, at the ACerS Annual Meeting event (held in conjunction with Materials Science & Technology Conference in North America) in even years and the European Ceramic Society Biennial Meeting in odd years. The award shall consist of an honorarium of $1500, registration for the event for one person, a certificate(s) and a piece of ceramic or glass artwork from the host society.

Nomination Process

The awardee must be nominated by a nominator who must provide a single page nomination letter. Self-nominations are not permitted.
A nomination form must be submitted and should include a statement of no more than 500 words stating the nominee’s leadership and service to further cooperation between ECerS and ACerS either over a period of several years, or highlighting service over and above expectations in a single event/activity, such as organizing a meeting, chairing a committee or task force, recruiting new members, frequently writing and/or reviewing for ECerS and ACerS publications, or promotion of both Societies’ positive interactions in the ceramics and glass community to the rest of the world.
Nominations are active for three annual reviews by the selection committee.

Award Winners

Mrityunjay Singh

Dr. Mrityunjay Singh is Chief Scientist, Ohio Aerospace Institute, Cleveland, OH. He received his Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology-BHU, India in 1983 and did his post-doctoral work at Louisiana State University, LA and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, NY.

Dr. Singh is globally recognized for his long term and outstanding contributions to science and technology of advanced materials and manufacturing technologies. His research has addressed both basic and applied questions and has been instrumental in establishing design, integration, and performance limits for single and multi-materials used in a wide variety of aerospace and ground-based applications.

Dr. Singh is ACerS Past President and currently President of World Academy of Ceramics, Italy. He is a Fellow of ACerS, ASM International, American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), and National Academy of Inventors (NAI). He is Honorary Fellow of European Ceramic Society, Indian Institute of Ceramics, and honorary member of Materials Research Society of India, Indian Ceramic Society, and Distinguished Life Member of Alpha Sigma Mu. He has received Honorary Doctorates from Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Slovakia, and AGH University, Krakow, Poland.

Dr. Singh is recipient of nearly 100 national and international awards including Distinguished Life Membership (DLM) Award, Edward Orton, Jr. Memorial Lectureship Award, W. David Kingery Award, John Jeppson Award, Richard M. Fulrath Award, Samuel Geijsbeek PACRIM International Award, and James I. Mueller Awards from ACerS, and Albert Sauveur Achievement Award and Edward DeMille Campbell Memorial Lectureship from ASM International.
