The Mrityunjay Singh Bridge Building Award honors his seminal contributions to the field of ceramic science and technology, as well as his distinguished service to the Engineering Ceramics Division, the American Ceramic Society, the global materials community, and to mentoring and international outreach. Individuals outside of the United States who have made outstanding contributions to engineering ceramics, international collaboration, and outreach are eligible for this award.

The two main criteria used in selecting the recipient are:

  1. Contribution to the field of engineering ceramics, including expansion of the knowledge base and commercial use thereof, and
  2. Contribution to the visibility of the field and international advocacy, mentoring, and outreach.

The award can be based on either criteria number one or number two.  The award consists of a plaque, award certificate, an honorarium of $1,000, and complimentary registration.
