The Outstanding Student Researcher (OSR) Award recognizes exemplary student research related to the mission of the Energy Materials and Systems Division (EMSD) of The American Ceramic Society (ACerS).

The award is open to U.S. and international graduate and undergraduate students actively engaged in research related to the EMSD. Specifically, an applicant must have submitted an abstract to the annual conference (MS&T or MCARE) in the year for which the applicant is applying. Accepted symposia are those organized and co-sponsored by the EMSD. Members of the EMSD who have submitted abstracts to other symposia may also apply.

For 2024, the EMSD’s annual conference will be MS&T24.

Submit your abstract for MS&T24 before May 15, 2024.

Submit your abstract for MCARE before April 15, 2024.

The awardee will be notified by August 31, 2024.

The Awardee is invited to present the OSR lecture at an EMSD symposium at the annual conference. The awardee will receive a recognition plaque and travel support up to $1,000.

The application, submitted either by a candidate or nominator, must contain the following materials integrated in one PDF file:

  • Application cover sheet (please include the title of the thesis or research project, applicant name and email address, university/affiliation, and advisor/supervisor’s name and email address)
  • CV and track record (may include publications, patents, press releases, public engagements and other research outputs)
  • Personal statement, stating the excellence and impact of the research
  • Nomination letter (free-form, should be supplied by a professor, senior scientist or the nominee’s supervisor who is well familiar with the nominee’s works)
