VRB Energy announces agreement for China’s largest solar battery
VRB Energy chairman Robert Friedland and CEO Mianyan Huang announced a framework agreement for a 100 MW solar photovoltaic and 100 MW / 500 MWh vanadium flow battery integrated power station project in Xiangyang, Hubei Province.
Chicago O’Hare International Airport to install smart windows
Glass-manufacturing firm View is set to install smart windows in the new 350,000 ft² Terminal 5 expansion at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. By using artificial intelligence, View Smart Windows control the amount of natural light in the terminal and reduce heat and glare.
Greece, Cyprus, and Israel take a further step to link their grids
The energy ministers of Greece, Cyprus, and Israel signed a memorandum of understanding aiming to boost the implementation of an underground electricity cable that would link the countries’ power grids.

Horn Glass Industries acquires JSJ Jodeit
Horn Glass Industries acquired the Melting Technology Division of JSJ Jodeit with effect from April 1, 2021. JSJ Jodeit has been a supplier of technology and equipment for the production of speciality glasses since its foundation in 1991.
U.S. Concrete wraps up acquisition in Canada
U.S. Concrete, a supplier of aggregate and ready-mixed concrete, completed the purchase of Orca Quarry on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The acquisition includes about 1,551 acres in four parcels of previously leased land.
Heineken joins Glass Futures and Encirc to trial low carbon bottles
Heineken is working in partnership with Glass Futures and container glass manufacturer Encirc to produce glass bottles using up to 100% recycled glass and low carbon biofuel, replacing high carbon natural gas. The trial, which is in its early stages, will see 1.4 million bottles of Heineken produced with the intent of hitting supermarket shelves in the U.K. in early 2021.
RWE, ORE Catapult studying concrete foundations for floating wind
RWE is partnering with Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, the U.K.-based technology innovation and research center for offshore renewable energy, to study the potential for Scottish businesses to produce commercial-scale concrete foundations for floating wind projects.
SMA America announces equipment partnership with GRID Alternatives
SMA America announced that the company is now a national equipment supplier for GRID Alternatives, the largest nonprofit solar installer in the United States. SMA will do in-kind equipment donations as well as training for installers.
EnviroAsh project hosts interactive workshop
The EnviroAsh project aims to investigate waste ashes, slags, and mineral byproducts as a source of secondary raw materials. The project team led by Glass Technology Services hosted an interactive workshop to discuss the project. Attendees came from across the six foundation industries: glass, ceramics, steel, paper, cement, and chemicals.
New partnership to boost building capabilities on nuclear energy technologies
A partnership between the World Nuclear Association and the ASEAN Centre for Energy aims to boost building capabilities on nuclear energy technologies and their applications, as well as enhance human resource capabilities and improve public engagement.

The Philippine House of Representatives approved a bill establishing the Philippine Energy Research and Policy Institute. The Institute will be established at the University of the Philippines and will conduct pertinent policy research on energy issues and ensure the coordination and timely dissemination of results to key government agencies.
L&L receives second order for medium-sized box furnace
