Şişecam shares updates on Plant of the Future at annual glass conference

During Şişecam’s 39th annual glass conference this month, CEO Gorkem Elverici gave an update about the Plant of the Future. This plant, launched in October 2024, aims to bring digitalization and sustainability to the forefront of glass manufacturing.

Leviton’s fiber factory expansion project completed

Leviton’s Network Solutions Business Unit completed the $25 million expansion project in its Fuquay-Varina, N.C., manufacturing facility. The project, started in 2022, effectively doubles the size of the facility, allowing Leviton to support the ever-growing demand for its fiber-optic cabling solutions.

Phytomining start-up farms nickel instead of mining it

A start-up called Metalplant is using phytomining to harvest nickel from fields of Odontarrhena chalcidica, a flowering plant that can draw up nickel from the soil and deposit it in its leaves and stems at high concentrations.

Townsend Group invests in CleanArc Data Centers

CleanArc Data Centers, a developer and operator of renewables-focused data center campuses, announced that Townsend Group made a strategic investment in the company. This new partnership supports CleanArc’s growth initiatives as it continues developing its first data center campus in Virginia, set to deliver 300 MW of capacity by Q1 2027.

Linde and O-I partner to install OPTIMELT technology at Holzminden, Germany, plant

O-I Glass, Inc. and Linde announced plans to install Linde’s proprietary OPTIMELT thermochemical regenerator technology at O-I’s container glass plant in Holzminden, Germany. This collaboration is expected to significantly reduce both fuel consumption and fuel-based Scope 1 carbon dioxide emissions for O-I.

Ardagh Glass Packaging partners with CAP Glass to establish glass recycling services

Ardagh Glass Packaging-North America, an operating business of Ardagh Group, announced a new long-term partnership with CAP Glass to invest in establishing glass recycling services throughout the United States.

A group of universities and education groups filed a lawsuit seeking to halt the U.S. Department of Energy’s cuts to federal research grants. Earlier this month, DOE announced a new policy to reduce the funding of “indirect costs” of research grants to 15%.

What we know about the US–Ukraine minerals deal

The U.S. and Ukraine are moving closer to signing a deal involving Ukraine’s mineral deposits. A signed memorandum of intent, published by the Ukrainian government on April 18, says the countries intend to set up an investment fund for the reconstruction of Ukraine as part of an economic partnership.
