Heidelberg Materials launches milestone carbon capture plant at Brevik

A new carbon capture facility at Heidelberg Materials’ Brevik plant in southern Norway will capture 0.4 Mta of CO2 from Brevik’s cement production process using amine-based carbon capture technology and transport the liquified CO2 via special-purpose ships to Øygarden for injection and permanent storage 2,600 meters under the seabed.

UK’s largest fiberglass factory shuts down

Japanese firm Nippon Electric Glass plans to shut its fiberglass plant in Hindley Green, Wigan, despite months of rescue talks with the government and local leaders. Josh Simons, Labour MP for Makerfield, said the firm had “repeatedly moved the goalposts” in discussions, while the GMB Union described the move as a “bitter betrayal” of the factory’s 250-strong workforce.

PERI UK and SWS partner for end-to-end concrete waterproofing solutions

PERI UK is partnering with sealing specialist Structural Waterproofing Services to develop a more streamlined solution for waterproofing concrete structures. The partnership will allow a single, integrated team to handle everything from product specification to expert installation and sign-off.

NextChem and Newcleo aim to develop commercial-scale nuclear plants

Italy’s Maire subsidiary NextChem and France-based innovative reactor developer Newcleo partnered to develop commercial-scale nuclear plants featuring Newcleo’s 200 megawatts electrical advanced modular reactor technology.

‘Precycling’ pilot program incorporates circularity into solar panel projects

ENGIE and SOLARCYCLE teamed up to pilot a new “precycling” provision that incorporates solar panel and project component recycling into initial agreements at four projects across the U.S. Precycling avoids waste and recyclables before they are even created through informed purchasing decisions.

Orora appoints glass president

Emmanuel Ladent will start as president of Orora’s global glass business on July 1, 2025. Orora is an Australia-based manufacturer and distributor of packaging and visual solutions. Ladent was formerly CEO of France-headquartered Carbios, a biotech company which develops plastic recycling technology.

FEVE elects Verallia’s chairman as its president

Verallia’s Michel Giannuzzi was elected president of FEVE European container glass association. In the coming months, FEVE will continue to advocate for a simple regulatory framework that supports innovation, competitiveness and the practical needs of the glass packaging value chain.

LG Chem, Noritake develop high-performance paste for auto power semiconductors

Korea’s LG Chem Company developed a high-performance silver paste in collaboration with Japan’s Noritake Company, designed specifically for bonding silicon carbide chips to substrates in automotive power semiconductors.
