Center for Glass Research launched to revitalize innovation in glass science

Building on a legacy of excellence in glass science and engineering, the new Center for Glass Research was recently launched at The Pennsylvania State University. It brings together researchers from Penn State, Alfred University, and Missouri University of Science and Technology in a strategic collaborative initiative.

Leaders tout jobs of the future at new Detroit glass plant

Government officials are hailing a new plant in Detroit’s Delray neighborhood as a model for aligning good jobs with green industry. The 276,000-square-foot glass manufacturing facility for LuxWall is expected to open in 2026 and will tout energy efficiency solutions with its innovative vacuum-insulating glass technology.

Singapore allocates more land for green energy, data center park

Roughly 10% of Jurong Island in Singapore will be set aside for renewable power projects and low-carbon fuel production, the Singapore Economic Development Board and developer JTC Corporation said in a recent joint statement. Another 20 hectares will be set aside to develop Singapore’s largest data center park.

Groupe Rondot acquires glass cooling group LWN

France-based Groupe Rondot acquired LWN, a German manufacturer of glass plant cooling systems. Groupe Rondot provides a variety of engineering services to the global container glass industry. It said this acquisition reflects its commitment to consolidating its technological know-how and enhancing the energy efficiency of its solutions.

US and Australia sign rare earths deal to counter China’s dominance

The U.S. and Australia signed a deal intended to boost supplies of rare earths and other critical minerals. It includes $1 billion to be invested by the two countries in projects in the U.S. and Australia over the next six months.

L&T Semiconductor and Hon Young partner on SiC wafer development

L&T Semiconductor Technologies Ltd. formed a long-term partnership with Hon Young Semiconductor to jointly develop high-voltage silicon carbide wafers, ranging from 650 V to 3,300 V, for automotive, industrial, and energy applications. The wafers will be manufactured at HYS’s fabrication facilities in Taiwan.

SoftBank collaborates with Cisco to launch “All optical network” in metros across Japan

SoftBank Corp. partnered with Cisco Systems G.K. to deploy the “All optical network” in Japan’s metro networks. The technology significantly reduces energy consumption by eliminating the need for optical-electrical conversion. The first phase was completed in the initial area of Osaka Prefecture in September 2025.

Kazakhstan, EU deepen cooperation on connectivity, green energy, and digital transformation

Kazakhstan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Arman Issetov participated in the ministerial meeting on advancing connectivity between Central Asia, the Eastern Partnership, Türkiye, and the European Union in Luxembourg. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in transport, energy, digital transformation, and trade.

 

Plibrico names new CEO

The Plibrico Company appointed John Paul Surdo as its new president and chief executive officer, following the retirement of Brad Taylor. Before joining Plibrico, Surdo held various senior leadership roles, most recently serving as president of the Americas at sheet metal processing company Bystronic Group.

Wolfspeed adds proven power semiconductor leader to executive team

Wolfspeed Inc. announced the appointment of Matthias Buchner as senior vice president of global sales and chief marketing officer, effective Dec. 1, 2025. He will oversee the company’s focus on leveraging its next-generation silicon carbide devices, produced on its vertically integrated 200-mm manufacturing platform.

Korea to introduce rules for agrivoltaics

The Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs plans to introduce a law establishing the legal basis for the deployment of agrivoltaics. The act is expected to be drafted in 2025 and enacted in the first half of 2026.

Heidelberg Materials rolls out EvoZero cement across Europe

Germany-based Heidelberg Materials began deliveries of EvoZero carbon-captured cement to customers across Europe. Subsidiary Heidelberg Materials Northern Europe produces EvoZero cement at its net-zero Brevik cement plant in Norway.
