Active Minerals announces completion of facility expansion

Active Minerals International, LLC, a supplier of high-quality air-floated kaolin mineral products, announced the completion of a capital improvement project at its Gordon, Georgia, operation. The facility will now increase capacity by bringing online a fifth mill.

NSG Pilkington site becomes fully decarbonized

NSG Pilkington’s automotive site in Settimo Torinese, Italy, became the first fully decarbonized site within the NSG Group. Starting in April, the site has operated solely on renewable energy provided by a combination of certified renewable electricity and a district heating network.

SibSteklo set to construct furnace in October

Siberian container glass manufacturer SibSteklo is set to start construction of a furnace in October. The company planned to start construction work earlier but postponed due to COVID-19. Five forming machines will be installed and the factory’s capacity should increase to 720–740 million items.

Orion Engineered Carbons breaks ground on new logistics center in Germany

Orion Engineered Carbons S.A., a worldwide supplier of specialty and high-performance carbon black, announced that it is building a new logistics center at its largest manufacturing plant in Cologne, Germany. Upon completion, the central warehouse will be 8,850 square-meters, equaling a capacity of approximately 12,400 pallets.

Lucideon and PCL Ceramics join forces

Lucideon, the international materials and process consultancy, and PCL Ceramics, a market leader in the manufacture of high-pressure casting equipment, joined forces to deliver new advances in processing across key market sectors.

GE Lighting sold to Massachusetts-based company Savant Systems

GE reached an agreement to sell GE Lighting to Savant Systems Inc., a Massachusetts-based company in the smart home business. The company’s 700-plus employees will transfer to Savant upon completion of the transaction, which is set for mid-2020.

GF, Kyocera, Kyudenko, Tokyo Century announce opening of solar power plant in Japan

GF Corporation, Kyocera Corporation, Kyudenko Corporation, and Tokyo Century Corporation announced that Kanoya Osaki Solar Hills LLC, a solar power venture jointly established by the four companies, started operating its Kanoya Osaki Solar Hills Solar Power Plant with peak generating capacity of approximately 100 megawatts.

Corning and Pfizer announce supply agreement for Corning Valor glass packaging

Corning Incorporated and Pfizer Inc. announced the execution of a long-term purchase and supply agreement for Corning Valor Glass. The multiyear agreement provides for the supply of Valor Glass vials to a portion of currently marketed Pfizer drug products, pending regulatory approval.

Nearly 85% of power capacity added in India in Q1 2020 was from solar & wind

All new power generation capacity added in India in the quarter ending March 2020 was from nonthermal technologies. The new capacity was dominated by solar power, followed by wind power. Coal-based power generation capacity contracted by 0.1 gigawatts, with no change in installed capacity based on diesel and gas.

New insulating refractories exhibit exceptionally high strength with low density

The Plibrico Company introduced its newest insulating castable refractories with Plicast LWI 24 HS and its aluminum resistant version Plicast Al-Tuff LWI 24 HS. Used in thermal environments of up to 2,400°F, these materials have low shrinkage and a low thermal conductivity rating.
