First floating PV plant commissioned in Russia
Hevel Group completed construction of the first floating solar power plant in Russia built on a reservoir at the largest hydropower plant in the Far East region. One hundred forty solar panels are mounted on pontoon-type floats.
Concrete plant is in the mix for ex-quarry site in Scotland
Plans were revealed for a new ready mix concrete batching plant at the disused Dunion Quarry near Jedburgh, Scotland. The aim is for the plant to operate over three years to supply the concrete necessary to complete the £88m Hawick flood defense scheme.
Afghan govt inks MoU with UAE firm for 3 GW of solar farms
The government of Afghanistan signed a memorandum of understanding with UAE-based firm PAL 4 Solar Energy LLC for a project that would generate up to 3,000 MW of solar power. Afghan government-owned power company Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat said the solar plants would be constructed across the country.

CAER, ORNL research partnership to turn coal into high-value carbon fiber
The University of Kentucky Center for Applied Energy Research and Oak Ridge National Laboratory are teaming up on a $10 million project to transform coal into high-value carbon fibers and composites. The project was funded by the DOE’s Office of Fossil Energy.
Swedish group acquires glass manufacturer assets
Dellner Bubenzer Group acquired the assets of North East glass manufacturer Romag Ltd and established a new company called Dellner Romag Ltd, which will focus on the manufacture and supply of specialist glass and glazing products for the global rail, transport, security, and architectural markets.

Glaston appoints new president and CEO
Glaston Corporation appointed Anders Dahlblom as its president and CEO. Dahlblom joins Glaston from Owens Corning, where he was working as vice president and managing director of the European insulation business unit since 2019. Dahlblom will assume his new position in February 2021.

Nearly half of Germany’s electricity came from wind and solar this year
A new report by independent climate think tank Ember shows wind and solar power accounted for 10% of global electricity generation in the first six months of 2020, compared to five years ago when it accounted for just 5%. Germany is well above the global figure with wind and solar generating an impressive 42% of its electricity so far this year.
Patent trends mirror the Li-ion market
The new IDTechEx report “Li-ion Battery Patent Landscape 2020” reviews key Li-ion patent topics and trends. IDTechEx’s research finds that since 2010, the total number of Li-ion patent applications that have been filed has grown by approximately 300%, mirroring the growth in the Li-ion market.

Tecglass’ new Vitro-Jet MultiFlex was designed as a fast, accurate, digital alternative to screen printing, using single-pass or multipass printing systems to reproduce all kinds of graphic patterns, lines, dots, logos, and frames on architectural glass. The new printer is configured to allow simultaneous two-color printing as well.
