Are you interested in learning more about ABET’s accreditation process? Are you preparing for an upcoming accreditation visit?

ABET, the accrediting organization for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology, is holding a retraining and informational session for those who are involved in the accreditation process.

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 18, from 7:15-9:30pm MST at the Sheraton Grand Phoenix, Phoenix, Arizona, in the Arcadia room on the second level. If you can’t make the trip, you can call in to the meeting by phone or VOIP/computer.

Janet Callahan, chair, Micron School of Materials Science and Engineering at Boise State University will lead the session and answer your questions about preparing your materials department for an accreditation visit.

If you’re a faculty member, department chair, current evaluator, or someone considering becoming an evaluator, you’re encouraged to attend this meeting.

“The session is for evaluators who need to be retrained in annual changes to the evaluation process, or for new/potential evaluators who want to learn about the evaluation process,” Pamela Hupp, outreach coordinator for the Materials Research Society explained in an email.

ABET’s information and evaluator retraining session will take place during the Materials Research Society (MRS) spring meeting, but you don’t have to attend MRS’s meeting in order to attend the accreditation/retraining session.

Hupp said the retraining session also “benefits any faculty and department that is about to undergo or is contemplating joining ABET, and will have a certification evaluation in the near future.”

You can register in advance at this link. Walk-ins are also welcome. If you’re planning to attend by phone or VOIP/computer, you must register in advance and indicate in the comments box that you will participate remotely. Organizers will send you instructions, including a phone number, one week prior to the training.

For more information visit the evaluator retraining session page on the MRS website.
