The September 2020 issue of ACerS Bulletin is now available online.

In this month’s issue, we look at new methods for synthesizing refractory ceramics. In the cover story, authors Boris Dyatkin and Matthew Laskoski provide a look into the single-step polymer-derived reaction bonding synthesis method the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory is using to create refractory metal carbides, borides, and nitrides.

The September issue features the annual announcement of ACerS Awards of 2020. In addition to this year’s Distinguished Life Members—Richard Brow, Alexandra Navrotsky, and Mrityunjay Singh—the Society will elevate 23 members to Fellow and recognize many more outstanding members with various Society, Division, and Class awards during a virtual celebration on Oct. 5, 2020.

The fourth issue of Ceramic & Glass Manufacturing is also included in this issue. This month’s feature article looks at how training and workforce development are changing in the era of COVID-19.

Finally, a recap of ACerS first virtual conference, the Virtual Glass Summit, provides an example of conducting meetings in this new format and gives an idea of what to expect at ACerS next virtual conference, the Ceramic Manufacturing Solutions Conference, which is also previewed in this issue.

You’ll find a lot more interesting content inside this—and every issue—of the ACerS Bulletin.
