Electric vehicles: China and Japan team up for ultra-fast charging

The China Electricity Council and Japan’s CHAdeMO Association signed an MOU to jointly develop next generation ultra-fast charging standards for electric vehicles. Ultra-fast charging standards were defined by the association earlier this year as up to 1000V and 400A for 400 kW.

Green Energy Technology to cut 203 jobs at STSP

Solar wafer maker Green Energy Technology has disclosed it will lay off 203 employees, or about two-thirds of its workforce at a plant in Southern Taiwan Science Park. The layoff is in line with its plans to streamline business to enhance competitiveness and improve performance.

Manufacturing cools in September, still running at strong rate

Manufacturing cooled in September but still operated at a strong rate, the Institute for Supply Management said in a monthly report. The group’s manufacturing index registered at 59.8%, down from August’s 61.3%. Growth in new orders slowed while production and employment registered small gains.

Norfolk museum to feature glass pieces from international glass artists on Nov. 14

The Barry Art Museum at Old Dominion University will open to the public on Nov. 14, 2018. The museum features international glass sculptures from renowned artists including Dale Chihuly, Stanislav Libensky, and Harvey Littleton, found of the American studio glass movement.

Oman to build glass recycling plant

A 650t/d glass recycling plant will be built in Sohar, Oman. The fully automated facility will be operational by the end of 2019 and is designed to meet the needs of varied glass manufacturers within the Gulf Cooperation Council region in terms of specifications, volumes, and pricing.

Allied Mineral Products has partnered with Silmeta Systems to become the exclusive supplier of run-out pits in North America. The run-out system is beneath the furnace and directs molten metal to the pit, which holds 120% of maximum furnace contents.

Guardian Glass starts construction of Polish plant

Guardian Glass held a groundbreaking ceremony for its second Polish plant in Częstochowa, Poland. The new facility location is adjacent to the company’s existing plant. The new facility is expected to begin operations in early 2020 and will create more than 150 new jobs.

InCerS to host 82nd Annual Session of the Society
