The editors and publisher of the Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids (JNCS) are seeking nominations for the W.H. Zachariasen Award.

This early-career honor recognizes excellence in research and JNCS publication in the field of amorphous materials. It is awarded every 2 years by the journal editors during the ACerS Glass and Optical Materials Division (GOMD) spring meeting. After a nearly 20-year hiatus, the journal recently reinaugurated the award in 2015 in Miami, Fla. This year, the award will be presented during the 12th Pacific Rim Conference on Ceramic and Glass Technology (PACRIM12) in Waikoloa, Hawaii, which will also include GOMD 2017.

Successful nominees must be no more than 40 years of age at the time of the award presentation (May 2017) and have published at least 5 articles in JNCS within 2014–2016.

The nomination package should contain:

  1. The nominee’s name, affiliation, age at time of award (May 2017), and contact information.
  2. A listing of at least five (5) citations of JNCS papers, published within the years 2014–2016, in which the nominee played a significant role.
  3. A short (250 word maximum) supporting statement that highlights the scientific significance of the nominee’s work and the associated impact of the JNCS publications that form the basis for the nomination.

Nomination packages (PDF document attachment) should be sent via electronic mail to all three editors: B. G. Potter, E. D. Zanotto, and J.W. Zwanziger. The deadline for nominations is March 15, 2017.
