• Owens-Illinois is investing €140 million on strengthening its European operations in 2013. It aims to improve its quality, sustainability and capabilities to better support the needs of its European customers for more sustainable and healthy glass packaging. Investments next year will comprise furnace and glassmaking machine upgrades at plants in France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and the Czech Republic.

SORG and EME have been chosen (pdf) as suppliers to the Consol Nigel Greenfield factory project. The initial regenerative furnace is 125 square meters and is capable of melting over 400 tons per day of flint containers. Future plans call for as many as six furnaces to be operating at this location. The batch plant building is designed to process up to 2,400 tons of batch per 16 hours; the initial installation has equipment capable of handling 1,200 tons of batch per day.

Magnezit Group, a recognized leader in the field of magnesia refractories production on the territory of Russia and CIS, and international industrial company Rath GmbH/AT, which specializes in production of refractory products based on alumina, silica and zirconia, concluded a strategic agreement on cooperation. The aim of the cooperation is joint development of projects for modernizations of furnaces at rolling-mills and machine building plants. Magnezit and Lucks Feuerfesttechnik, an international engineering and service company, also concluded an agreement for cooperation. The agreement provides for cooperation in the field of refractory products delivery, engineering and service of thermal units of lime, sugar and soda industries in Europe. A high level of partners’ competence in the field of production of modern materials and maintenance of thermal units, highly skilled specialists and novel technological solutions create conditions for efficient cooperation and further business development in Europe and the world.

Aluminium Corp. of China, the country’s biggest producer, is seeking to tap bauxite resources and build processing plants abroad after Indonesia, the largest supplier to China, curbed exports. The company plans to build an alumina facility with a capacity of 1 million tons a year in Indonesia as the first phase.
