Vitro SAB, one of Mexico’s largest glass manufacturers, is launching a new line of self-cleaning glass that’s said to improve visibility when it rains. Called “Ecopure,” the line is being rolled out through the firm’s European affiliate, Vitro Cristalglass. Sturdy, colorless and hydrophobic, Ecopure features a proprietary coating on one side that reportedly is able to boost visibility during rain showers and destroy organic contaminants that collect on its surface. The company says Ecopure’s coating enhances water’s ability to slide off glass, and prevents water marks and streaks from forming. Even on overcast days, the firm contends, the sun’s rays are strong enough to aid the coating in decomposing grime that’s collected on the window glass’ surface. The coating also is said to augment the rain’s ability to later wash away any remaining residue. In addition to improving visibility and saving maintenance time and expense related to window cleaning, Vitro says its new glass also is environmentally friendly because it reduces the need for detergents.
