Course Description

Learn the basics of ceramics and their advanced properties and applications

The Advanced Ceramic Industry includes a myriad of products and applications. A comprehensive knowledge of the science behind this diverse field is an absolute necessity for anyone in the industry. That is the first leg of this course. The second leg is to explore the properties and applications that define the industry as a whole. This is a challenging undertaking, and the course is designed to provide comprehensive coverage in one place.

The course starts in Module I by delving into the basic science underlying these properties and applications, since this is fundamental to our understanding the field and technology. Students do not need a background in science, since the course will provide all the necessary coverage. However, the scientific foundation will be extensive and in significant depth.

Module II covers the mechanical, electrical, optical, thermal, and magnetic properties of advanced ceramic materials in considerable depth, and for each property explores a variety of important applications related to the advanced ceramic industry. The course does not cover manufacturing technology, which is covered in depth in Frahme’s Ceramic Manufacturing Technology course.
