In today’s rapidly growing industries of commercial communication systems like 5G, aerospace and defense and vehicle automation there is a strong demand for the highest levels of performance. Key to this being successful is the quality of materials used in the development and deployment of these systems. The talk will discuss how the quality of materials can drive the performance of solutions that are being implemented from the chip-level to the system level. Hopefully, it will provide some insights into the types of materials being used and why these choices, but more over how they can impact the performance of the solutions.

For instance, in the case of 5G systems the permittivity has a direct impact on the propagation delay and signal loss. In these cases, the material characteristics can be the difference between low quality system versus a high-performance communication link. The talk will conclude with a summary of the methods of materials measurement currently being adopted in the industry for today and future.
