Behind the Editor’s Desk: Secrets to positioning yourself and your work to spark influence and conversations

This workshop takes a fresh, insider-focused approach, with the goal of not just helping authors get published but encouraging them to see themselves as part of the ceramics and glass scholarly community. The leaders will provide tips on how to engage with editors and craft articles that drive conversation, influence fields, and leave a lasting impact.

Topics include

  • Exploring what editors really look for beyond quality – “hidden” criteria that influence editorial decisions, like significance, interdisciplinary connections, unique perspectives
  • From submission to influence – framing work for a “lasting” impact by presenting research using storytelling techniques that editors find memorable and shareable
  • Case studies on transformative papers that sparked special issues, led to follow-up studies or set new trends
  • Interactive session to help authors focus on promoting what makes their research unique or urgently relevant in the context of a journal’s editorial priorities

The first workshop is being held at the ICACC 2025 meeting on Monday January 27 at Noon) immediately following the plenary session) in the Coquina H meeting room of the Hilton Daytona.
