Julian R. Jones is a Professor of Biomaterials at Imperial College London, UK and Visiting Professor at Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan. He graduated in Materials Science from the University of Oxford in 1999 and obtained his PhD (under Professor Larry Hench’s supervision) from Imperial College London in 2002. In 2004 he obtained a Faculty position through being awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering/ EPSRC Research Fellowship.  

He has more than 80 articles (h-index 30 at >500 cites p.a.) and has given >20 invited/keynote talks at international conferences in the fields of bioactive glasses and sol-gel inorganic/organic hybrids. In 2014 he was awarded the Vittorio Gottardi Award from the International Commission on Glass (ICG) for outstanding achievements in glass research. He is an active member of the Glass and Optical Materials Division of ACerS and a recipient of the Robert L. Coble Award (American Ceramics Society) in 2010. He is chair of the ICG’s biomedical glass technical committee (TC04) and co-chair of ACerS Technical Interest Group in Bioceramics.

He has a group of 23 post docs and PhD students, having graduated 12 PhD students. His research interests revolve around the development of advanced materials for regenerative medicine and therapeutic applications, which include 3-D printed hybrids and bioactive nanoparticles.
