During the 68th national meeting of the Brazilian Ceramic Association (ABCeram) in Santos, São Paulo, Brazil, a significant roundtable discussion on internationalization took place. The primary focus was on collaborating with The American Ceramic Society (ACerS) to establish an ACerS International Brazil Chapter, aimed at enhancing the exchange of knowledge and experiences between members of both nations.

The concept for an ACerS International Brazil Chapter originated at the recent Pan-American Ceramics Congress, which took place in Panama City, Panama, in April 2024. More than 20 Brazilian members of ACerS put forward a petition to establish a local chapter in Brazil. Currently, there are 65 ACerS members based in the country, not including numerous other Brazilians active in the U.S. and Europe.

Brazil’s ceramics sector is a prominent force in Latin America. It encompasses a wide range of products, including advanced ceramics, glasses, and construction materials, particularly ceramic tiles. Brazilian companies are increasingly focusing on technological upgrades to enhance their competitiveness on the global stage. This strategy not only establishes Brazil as a leader in the regional ceramics industry but also promotes broader economic and technological development across Latin America.

“ABCeram is proud to expand our international footprint through meaningful collaboration with ACerS,” says ACerS Fellow Dachamir Hotza, director of communications of ABCeram. “This partnership will not only strengthen ties within the scientific and industrial communities but also catalyze advancements in ceramic technology and education globally.”
