The May 2023 issue of ACerS Bulletin is now available online.
In this month’s issue, we look at methods for decarbonizing industrial processes. The cover story by Christopher W. Sinton describes how the decarbonization of glassmaking will require a mix of strategies across the entire value chain. Additionally, the “Deciphering the Discipline” column by Sierra Astle and Shaylee Traugh highlights a new phosphate-based glass for sustainable glass manufacturing, and the “Business and Market View” column overviews two emerging decarbonization strategies: carbon capture, utilization, and storage and hydrogen fuel.
Two more feature stories appear in the May issue. The first story by Samantha Dannick and Mechele Romanchock overviews the history of GE Lighting at Nela Park and describes how its historical record will be preserved for future researchers and innovators thanks to dedicated work by a group of GE Lighting retirees. The second story by Alexander Bailey, Kun Wang, Darren Stohr, Ryan Jeffrey, and Xingwu Wang reports the effects that radiation and other spaceflight conditions have on 3D-printed ceramics.
The Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation received a $1.25 million donation from the Sastri Family. Learn about what this transformational gift means for the Foundation.
