We have some exciting news to share! Wiley and ACerS are launching a new initiative aimed at making open access (OA) publishing more equitable and affordable as part of both ACerS’ and Wiley’s ongoing commitment to fostering inclusivity and accessibility in scholarly publishing. Under this pilot, authors in Latin America will be able to publish in International Journal of Ceramic Engineering & Science (IJCES) at a price that is tied to the purchasing power of their region.

We anticipate the pilot (details here), which began on Jan. 21, 2025, will run for 12 months. In addition to discounts for IJCES authors, this program will cover publication in any of Wiley’s nearly 600 fully open-access (Gold OA) journals.

Discounted article processing charges (APCs) will automatically be applied based upon the country of the corresponding authors’ institutions. No special requests are necessary. To find the discounts for your institution, please go to the Open Access Pricing Power Parity chart.

This initiative provides more authors access to the advantages of Gold OA publishing, which are already enjoyed by authors at institutions with transformational agreements and who benefit from our participation in the Research4Life program.

ACerS has its own initiatives aimed at reducing funding as a barrier to publication in IJCES. For example, ACerS members who are not covered under other Wiley initiatives enjoy substantially discounted APCs. Simply enter the author’s ACerS membership ID and the code “ACER5” when you submit your original or transferred manuscript.

If you are not already an ACerS member, you can explore the many types of ACerS memberships at https://ceramics.org/membership/types-of-membership.

Other programs may be available for discounted APCs. Please contact Jonathon Foreman, journals managing editor, at jforeman@ceramics.org for more information.
