The June/July 2020 issue of ACerS Bulletin is now available online.

In this month’s issue, we look at how radiographic imaging methods can offer insights into materials composition and processing techniques. In the cover story, author Blythe McCarthy describes how the Smithsonian uses radiographic imaging methods to investigate historical artifacts. An accompanying article by ACerS PCSA chair Victoria Christensen takes a look at how students are handling classes and research during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The June/July issue also features the annual student section. This year’s theme was risk in research, and six students cover risks in various aspects of the student experience, including moving to a new country to pursue a Ph.D. and validating research when it cannot be tested experimentally.

The June/July issue contains the third issue of Ceramic & Glass Manufacturing, ACerS new B2B magazine for the ceramics and glass industry. This issue’s theme is “Smart manufacturing: Good business practices for manufacturers” and features a story on safe practices that companies are implementing in the face of COVID-19.

Finally, this month’s “Business and Market View” column previews an exclusive interview with Sir David Payne, director of the Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom, on the role silica may play in the developing 5G fiber optic market. ACerS members can access the full interview for free here.
