The June/July 2022 issue of ACerS Bulletin is now available online.

In this month’s issue, we look at emerging materials for nanodesign. The cover story by authors Brian C. Wyatt, Anupma Thakur, and Babak Anasori shows how research on 2D transition metal carbides and nitrides (MXenes) led to its usage in many sectors—with future applications continuously emerging. The “Business and Market View” column offers a look at global markets and technologies for nanofibers.

This issue also contains student perspectives on hope in the annual ACerS Bulletin student section. The challenges that students faced throughout the past few years are immense; yet, hope remained ever-present in the face of these challenges. Students share how looking to the past and other creative sources can lead us to a cleaner, more supportive, and more collaborative world.

This volume of the ACerS Bulletin is being published during the United Nations International Year of Glass. A regular column highlighting the International Year appears in each issue, and the fifth column in the series by Alicia Durán and John M. Park looks at how the International Year of Glass helps usher in the future Age of Glass.

Also included in this issue is the latest Ceramic & Glass Manufacturing, which explores how businesses are adapting to the challenges of doing business in an unpredictable world. The main story contains interviews with Johannes Homa (Lithoz, chief executive officer), Carol Jackson (HarbisonWalker International, president), and Neda Jaafar (Schott, spokesperson) about their experiences operating in a global environment. An accompanying article by Agostinho Rosa Neto of Wilden describes how the design and method of operation of air-operated double-diaphragm pumps enable these pumps to reliably outperform their traditional counterparts in ceramics production. Plus, there are highlights from the Japan Fine Ceramics Association’s recently published English-language version of its recently published “FC Roadmap 2050.”

Finally, meet the incoming ACerS officers and Board members for 2022–2023.
