The American Ceramic Society represents all people involved in the global ceramics and glass community. Our common enthusiasm for solving grand challenges with ceramic and glass materials binds us and leaves no room for artificial boundaries. Therefore, we must continually challenge ourselves to create an interpersonal culture of diversity in the Society and do our best to export it throughout our sphere of influence.
As part of our commitment to cultivating a diverse, inclusive, and equitable environment for all in the ceramics and glass community, we have curated a new Diversity & Inclusion section of the website to give members a transparent account of all our ongoing initiatives to achieve this goal.
The “D&I awards and initiatives” webpage highlights awards and initiatives specifically aimed at uplifting the work and voices of people from groups that have been underrepresented in ACerS relative to their participation in the Society. It also includes a list of upcoming events on diversity and inclusion.
The “Diversity & Inclusion Member Community” webpage describes a special group for ACerS members to communicate with other members on diversity, inclusion, and equity related topics. The group is part of the ACerS Member Community platform.
The “Fostering equity in science” webpage offers tips on how to foster diversity, inclusivity, and equity in the sciences on both an individual and organizational level. The webpage also provides more information about ACerS Diversity & Inclusion Subcommittee, the group who developed this resource list.
ACerS recognizes and welcomes its responsibility—and opportunity—to lead positive change. We look forward to working with our members to continue advancing this goal.
Also, learn more about the procedures that ACerS has in place to ensure a safe environment for all participants at ACerS events and activities through the Anti-Harassment Policy and Code of Conduct.
