ACerS is pleased to announce C.D. Madhusoodana has been selected for Volunteer Spotlight, a program that recognizes a member who demonstrates outstanding service to The American Ceramic Society through volunteerism.

Madhusoodana is general manager in the Corporate R&D Division of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), where he heads the Ceramic Technological Institute as well as the Metallurgy, Materials & Composites Laboratories and Mechanical and Design Laboratories. He received his bachelor’s in ceramics from PDA College of Engineering in Kalaburagi; a master’s from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore; and an advanced diploma in chemistry and chemical engineering and a doctorate in engineering, both from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan.

Madhusoodana has three decades of R&D experience on ceramic and advanced materials for energy and environmental applications, with a current focus on clean and green energy systems. His research has provided him with many global engagement opportunities, including fellowships from Alfred University, UNESCO, and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science; a visiting scientist position at the Indonesian Institute of Science and Institute for Membrane Technology in Italy; and being a member of an Indian delegation to Germany. His work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the G.N. Agrawal Memorial Award from the Indian Ceramic Society, the State Award for Young Engineers from the Karnataka government, and the Eminent Engineer Award from The Institution of Engineers (India).

Madhusoodana has been a member of ACerS since 2004, affiliated with the Engineering Ceramics Division and the Energy Materials and Systems Division. He currently serves as chair of the ACerS International Southwest India Chapter, and he co-organizes symposiums at the CMCEE and ICACC conferences. Madhusoodana has also been actively involved in the Indian Ceramic Society, serving previously as honorary editor of Transactions of Indian Ceramic Society, chairman of the Karnataka Chapter, and currently as the Society’s vice president (president-elect). For his efforts connecting Indian and U.S. ceramic communities, along with his technological achievements, Madhusoodana was recognized as an ACerS Global Ambassador in 2023.
