Here at ACerS, we are always looking for ways to help our members grow in their professional careers. And in recent years, the ability to communicate science to the general public has become increasingly important.

Unfortunately, knowing how to communicate science effectively to people without a science background is a skill not always taught in school. But luckily for you, ACerS is here to help with our new “Communicating Science” webpage!

Developed with help from ACerS President’s Council of Student Advisors, the “Communicating Science” webpage provides a list of useful resources on effective science communication skills from a variety of organizations, including ACerS, the American Chemical Society, the National Science Foundation, the Society of Physics Students, and many more.

The resources encompass many aspects of good science communication, including a look at different audiences, tips on communicating science on-line or in person, and advice on formatting your message in different mediums (e.g., written visual). There also is a section featuring materials science demos and activities and links to free science comic books!

Do you know of other free resources that help people improve their science communication skills? Email Lisa McDonald at lmcdonald@ceramics.org for possible inclusion on the list.
