When the June/July 2020 issue of Ceramic & Glass Manufacturing published last spring, companies were just beginning to implement the myriad changes necessary to continue operating during a global pandemic. Despite the challenges, many leaders expressed hope that the unusual situation would provide new opportunities for their companies.

Now, a year later, the new June/July 2021 issue of C&GM showcases a few of the successes achieved by companies that prepared for contingencies and continued to grow during the pandemic.

In the cover article, C&GM content editor David Holthaus talked with several companies about their operations over the past year, including

  • CoorsTek, a Golden, Colo.-based maker of advanced technical ceramics that accomplished the planning, design, and initial stages of construction of a large, new plant in Thailand with few delays.
  • Du-Co Ceramics, a Saxonburg, Pa.-based maker of ceramic insulators that kept customers supplied thanks to the decision to keep a large amount of raw materials in its inventory.
  • Corning, a Corning, N.Y-based technology company that developed a new glass composition for vials, which were used to distribute the coronavirus vaccine.

The June/July 2021 issue also contains a perspective by exhibition organizer Smarter Shows on how they continued to bring industry professionals together virtually while planning the return to live events.

“While we value the opportunities that the events of the past year have afforded us to improve and innovate, I am certain that I speak for the entire team in saying that we couldn’t be happier to be looking eagerly ahead at running our full complement of eight live events this year, beginning in mid-July, and with Ceramics Expo 2021 ready to return August 30–September 1,” Smarter Shows joint managing director Emma Stokes writes in the article.
