Dr. Yury Gogotsi is Distinguished University Professor and Charles T. and Ruth M. Bach Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He also serves as Director of the A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute. He received his MS (1984) and PhD (1986) from Kiev Polytechnic (Dr.h.c. in 2018) and a DSc degree from the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in 1995 (Dr.h.c in 2017). His research group works on 2D carbides and nitrides (MXenes), nanostructured carbons, and other nanomaterials for energy, water and biomedical applications. He published more than 800 papers, which have been cited about 180,000 times, co-authored 2 books and edited 15 books. He filed more than 180 patent applications and dozens of his patents have been licensed to industry.  He has been recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher in Chemistry and Materials Science, and a Citations Laureate in Physics by Clarivate Analytics. He has received numerous awards for his research including a Ceramic Prize from the World Academy of Ceramics, MRS Medal, Chemistry of Materials Award from ACS, S. Somiya Award from IUMRS, European Carbon Association Award, Materials Innovation Award from Materials Today, Horizon Prize from RSC, R&D 100 Awards from R&D Magazine and many other distinctions. He has been elected a Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, World Academy of Ceramics, AAAS, MRS, ACerS, ECS, RSC and ISE. He holds honorary doctorates from several European universities. He also served on the MRS Board of Directors.

Yury is affiliated with the Basic Science Division of ACerS, he was elected Fellow in 2005, received Ross Coffin Purdy Award in 2012, won Roland B. Snow award 5 times between 2003 and 2013, and delivered the Sosman Lecture in 2019.
