The 8th EDF Nuclear Graphite Conference was held Sept. 22-24 at the Queen’s College in Oxford, England. Dong (Lilly) Liu and James Reed chaired the conference, which aimed to bring together experts from industry, academia and the regulatory community to share developments in graphite science and engineering. During the event, the American Ceramic Society was recognized for sponsoring the conference, and its Engineering Ceramics Division was promoted, with a focus on Division’s history, the opportunities it offers and the Graduate and Doctoral Student memberships it supports.
The conference featured technical talks from industry and academic experts spanning the full graphite lifecycle. Topics covered materials and irradiation, inspection and core condition, fracture and structural integrity, retrieval and disposal, modeling and AI, and future reactor graphite. A formal dinner followed, giving attendees a chance to network.
Delegates also heard about the 51st International Conference and Expo on Advanced Ceramics and Composites, set for 2027.
