The 8th EDF Nuclear Graphite Conference was held Sept. 22–24, 2026, at the Queen’s College in Oxford, England. ACerS members Dong (Lilly) Liu and James Reed chaired the conference, which aimed to bring together experts from industry, academia, and the regulatory community to share developments in graphite science and engineering.
During the event, ACerS Engineering Ceramics Division was recognized for supporting the conference with its ICACC Golden Jubilee funds. Division leadership shared the Division’s history with attendees and described opportunities the Division offers to ceramic scientists and engineers, including sponsoring ACerS Graduate and Doctoral Student memberships.
The conference featured technical talks from industry and academic experts spanning the full graphite lifecycle. Topics covered materials and irradiation, inspection and core condition, fracture and structural integrity, retrieval and disposal, modeling and artificial intelligence, and future reactor graphite. A formal dinner followed, giving attendees a chance to network.
Delegates also heard about the 51st International Conference and Expo on Advanced Ceramics and Composites, set for January 2027.
