ACerS is pleased to announce Ziyaad Aytuna has been selected for Volunteer Spotlight, a program that recognizes a member who demonstrates outstanding service to The American Ceramic Society through volunteerism.

Aytuna is a postdoctoral researcher in the Institute of Inorganic and Materials Chemistry at the University of Cologne, Germany. He received his bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Cologne, and he remained after graduation to continue his research as a post-doc.

Aytuna’s research focuses on the molecular-level synthesis and characterization of advanced inorganic materials. He focused on metal chalcogenide precursors during his bachelor’s studies, and then he transitioned to high-entropy oxides and sulfides during his master’s and Ph.D. research. In his current position, he investigates the relationships among chemical composition, synthesis conditions, structural characteristics, and material properties with the aim to develop controlled synthetic approaches for complex multicomponent materials.

Aytuna’s scientific work has been recognized with best presentation and poster awards at various conferences, including the International Symposium on Ecomaterials Processing and Design in Wuhan, China; the International Conference on Advanced Ceramics for Sustainability in Chennai, India; and the International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and Composites in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Aytuna has served as chair of the ACerS International Germany Chapter since 2021 and is affiliated with the Society’s Energy Materials and Systems Division. He is also a member of the Young Professionals Network of the German Ceramic Society. Through his involvement in professional societies, he promotes scientific exchange, international collaboration, and networking opportunities for early-career researchers.

We extend our deep appreciation to Aytuna for his service to our Society!
