Optical and luminescent materials play an indispensable role in our daily lives, industry, and defense. These materials enable everything from general illumination and liquid crystal displays to high-power laser sources for sensing and processing purposes.
This broad range of applications is made possible thanks to the deep understanding of structure–property relationships in luminescent materials and optical ceramics, which allows for the rational design, synthesis, and processing of new and existing compositions.
An upcoming special issue of Journal of the American Ceramic Society is accepting submissions of original studies that explore the latest innovations, applications, challenges, and future directions of luminescent materials and optical ceramics. Comprehensive reviews and perspective articles on the past, present, and future of luminescent materials and optical ceramics are also encouraged.
Call for paper topics: Luminescent materials for solid state lighting, advanced displays, and sensing technologies; persistent luminescent ceramics; transparent ceramics; laser ceramics; magneto-optical and electro-optical ceramics; scintillation ceramics; nanophosphors for biomedical applications; synthesis of luminescent materials and optical ceramics; structure–function properties; emerging applications
Keywords: Optical properties, photoluminescence, powders, ceramics, solid-state lighting, emissive displays, sensing, laser, optoelectronic properties, structure–properties relationship, persistent luminescence
Submission instructions and process: Please refer to the Author Guidelines to prepare your manuscript. The submission link is https://wiley.atyponrex.com/journal/JACerS. When submitting your work, indicate it is for this special issue by selecting the title “Luminescence Materials and Optical Ceramics” from the drop-down list under the question “Is this submission for a special issue?”
Deadline for submissions: Monday, Sept. 1, 2025
Authors must submit their papers online. For any topic-related questions regarding this special issue, please contact Rong-Jun Xie of Xiamen University at rjxie@xmu.edu.cn.
