Eugenio Zapata-Solvas

ACerS is pleased to announce a new feature in which we spotlight outstanding volunteers who demonstrate outstanding service to The American Ceramic Society through their volunteer efforts.

Our first honoree, who has set a tremendous example for other Chapter and Section leaders, is Eugenio Zapata-Solvas, chair of ACerS U.K. Chapter.

Zapata-Solvas is the founding organizer and has been chair of ACerS U.K. Chapter since October 2016. He has spent a lot of his own time promoting and facilitating events to enhance interaction between the ceramics industry, ceramic early career researchers, and academics within the U.K. Because of his efforts, the U.K. Chapter has grown significantly.

He was named ACerS Global Ambassador in May 2017 for his outstanding leadership of the U.K. Chapter since its inception. Since 2015, Zapata-Solvas has served on the editorial board on “Chemical Physics” for the Scientific Reports journal from Nature Publishing group.

He joined UCL BEAMS Research Coordination Office (Office of the Vice Provost for Research) as strategic research facilitator–Industry and platforms in July 2018, where he focuses on the strategic support and promotion of the modern industrial strategy from the U.K. government within University College London.

Zapata-Solvas earned a B.Sc. in physics in 2004 and a Ph.D. in 2008 from the University of Seville (Spain). He has nearly 15 years of experience dedicated to ceramic materials science, focusing on the study of advanced ceramics for extreme environments and energy-efficient sintering techniques in institutions such as the University of Oxford, Spanish National Research Council, and Imperial College London.

We extend our deep appreciation for Zapata-Solvas’ service to our Society!
