ACerS is pleased to announce Prannoy Suraneni has been selected for Volunteer Spotlight, a program that recognizes a member who demonstrates outstanding service to The American Ceramic Society through volunteerism.
Suraneni is associate professor of civil and architectural engineering and head of the Advanced Cement Chemistry, Engineering, Sustainability, and Science (ACCESS) Lab at the University of Miami in Florida. He received his bachelor’s in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, M.S. from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and Ph.D. from ETH Zürich.
As head of the ACCESS Lab, Suraneni’s research involves making concrete infrastructure sustainable, durable, and resilient through fundamental and applied research at multiple length and time scales. Current focuses include supplementary cementitious materials and coastal infrastructure. The lab also aims to make concrete understanding, knowledge, and possibilities accessible to K–12 students and the general public.
Apart from research and education, Suraneni is also passionate about mentorship, workforce development, and regional innovation. He has received numerous awards recognizing young researchers, including the ACerS Cements Division Early Career Award and the RILEM Gustavo Colonnetti Medal, as well as served as an American Concrete Institute Ambassador Speaker and Emerging Member.
Suraneni has been an ACerS member since 2017 and a lifetime member since 2019. He has held numerous leadership roles in the Cements Division: secretary (2022–2023), chair-elect (2023–2024), chair (2024–2025), and outgoing chair (2025–2026). As outgoing chair, he and his team organized the 16th Advances in Cement-Based Materials meeting, which was the largest-ever Cements Division meeting with 198 attendees. Along with Shiho Kawashima and Alex Brand, he is serving this year as guest editor for a special issue of Journal of the American Ceramic Society on emerging cement chemistry.
We extend our deep appreciation to Suraneni for his service to our Society!
