ACerS is pleased to announce Theresa (Tessa) Davey has been selected for Volunteer Spotlight, a program that recognizes a member who demonstrates outstanding service to The American Ceramic Society through volunteerism.

Davey is assistant professor in the Fracture and Reliability Research Institute of the School of Engineering at Tohoku University, Japan. She has an M.S. in theoretical physics and an M.S. in extreme conditions physics from Imperial College London, U.K.

Before relocating to Japan in 2017, she completed her Ph.D. and worked as a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Materials at Imperial College London. She also is undertaking discipline-based educational research, specifically regarding individual-centered education methods to improve equitable access to education.

Davey has been a member of ACerS since 2014, with involvement in the Refractory Ceramics, Engineering Ceramics, and Basic Science Divisions. She was a delegate of the President’s Council of Student Advisors (PCSA) and was the first international PCSA chair in 2016. Since then, she helped establish the United Kingdom and Japan Chapters and served as secretary for both.

Davey is a member of the Member Services Committee and recently became chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Subcommittee. She has big plans for this new opportunity!
