There is no doubt the past decade saw significant advances in materials research, benefitting consumers and industry in almost every way—from flexible and printed electronics to new catalysis materials.

As 2020 approaches, it is an ideal time to reflect on previous accomplishments and consider where research could head next, if the proper groundwork is laid to facilitate future advances. And if you are looking for a platform from which to begin discussion, look no further than the National Academies.

On Thursday, February 28, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will release its latest report, Frontiers of Materials Research: A Decadal Survey. This report identifies promising future directions for research in materials science—from fundamental research to disruptive manufacturing—and recommends convergent research across diverse areas that should receive investment from government and industry, to help secure global leadership in materials research.

On the day of release, the National Academies will hold a report release webinar from 4–5 p.m. EST. Co-chairs will discuss key finding recommendations from the report, and they will take questions from the live and digital audiences.

For those interested in attending the webinar, you can register for free here. Additionally, a prepublication version of the report is available now.
