Barbara Malič is a Scientific Councillor and Head of the Electronic Ceramics Department of Jožef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia. She is a professor of Chemistry of Materials and head of the doctoral study programme Sensor technologies at Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School, Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Malič obtained her BSc (1983), MSc (1990) and PhD (1995) degrees in Chemistry at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. She has been employed at Jožef Stefan Institute since 1983. In 1996 she was on post-doc at EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland. She was a guest professor at Shizuoka University, Hamamatsu, Japan (2014).

She is the author or co-author of about 250 papers, 10 book chapters, about 150 technical reports, 1 EU/US/Chinese patent and 4 Slovenian patents. She has collaborated as a partner or PI in national research projects, projects for industry, as well as in international projects funded by European Commission and European Space Agency.

Malič is a recipient of the Zois recognition for achievements in the research of ferroelectric ceramics and films (2010) and of the Zois award (2020) for achievements in the research of electrocaloric ceramic materials. She is a Fellow of the European Ceramic Society (2019) and a member of World Academy of Ceramics (2021).

Malič is a member of the Electronics Division of The American Ceramic Society.

Her research topics include lead-based and lead-free ferro- and piezoelectric ceramics and thin films, electrocaloric materials, solution processing of thin films and nanostructures, and processing – microstructure – properties relationship.
