Lennart Bergström

Lennart Bergström is professor in materials chemistry at the Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry at Stockholm University, Stockholm, Sweden.

Prof. Bergström received his MSc in Chemical Engineering, PhD in Physical Chemistry, and was appointed as docent in Ceramic Technology, all from the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. Prior to moving to Stockholm University in 2004, he held several positions at the Institute of Surface Chemistry, YKI in Stockholm. He has been a visiting scientist at University of Washington, USA (1991), postdoctoral fellow at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan (1994) and visiting professor at AIST in Nagoya, Japan, the Max Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfaces, Golm, Germany, and the University of Konstanz, Germany.

Prof. Bergström has published more than 150 peer-reviewed papers, numerous book-chapters and seven patents. He has received the Sandvik Coromant Material Prize, the Akzo Nobel Surface Chemistry Nordic Science Prize, the Jacob Wallenberg Award, the Stockholm Innovation Prize and most recently the Humboldt Research Award in 2011. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Prof. Bergström is an associate editor of STAM, principal editor of the Journal of Materials Research, and advisory board member for Nanoscale. He belongs to the Basic Science division of ACerS. He has contributed as Chair, Organizer and Advisory Board member including the ECerS 12 conference, and the ACerS ICCPS, ICC, and PacRim meetings.

Current research interests include the assembly of polyhedral nanoparticles into well-ordered arrays of novel symmetries, development of novel powder processing routes of hierarchically porous monoliths for gas separation applications, and multifunctional inorganic-nanocellulose hybrids.
