Dr. Mary R. Reidmeyer is a Teaching Professor Emeritus at the Missouri University of Science & Technology (Missouri S&T) in Rolla, Missouri. For over 20 years she has focused on teaching, student programs and outreach activities. She teaches glass courses and oversees the operation of the MSE Hot Glass Shop.

Mary received a BS (1978) degree from the University of Missouri-Rolla in Ceramic Engineering. After working in the refractories industry, she returned to graduate school to study technical glasses with Delbert Day receiving MS (1984) and Ph.D. (1989) degrees. She taught several years then left academia for a decade founding two companies that provided ceramic product development and testing, and die casting lubricants. In 2003 she returned to academia where she resumed teaching and innovative outreach activities.

Mary’s contributions have been recognized by Missouri S&T with honors that include the 2017 Dr. Elizabeth Cummin’s Women’s Advocate Award, 2012 Outstanding Advisor, 2010 Faculty Achievement Award, 2010 Alumna of the Year, 2009 Outstanding Faculty Award, and the 2007 Keramos Alumna Award. She has published sixteen technical papers over a wide range of subjects and holds four patents. She was the co-director of the ASM Materials Camps at Missouri S&T for 10 years and has provided demonstrations to thousands of visiting students and distributed thousands of mini material demo kits. She remains active with the American Ceramic Society, St. Louis Section, where she served as an officer for two rotations. In 2019, she received the Greaves-Walker Lifetime Service Award.

Mary continues to be active at Missouri S&T teaching and using the hot glass shop to recruit and inspire students as well as engage the local community.
