Mike-Alexander-photoMike Alexander is Vice President of Research for Riverside Refractories, Inc. A graduate of Alfred University, Mike has been involved with the refractories industry since 1977. He was involved with blast furnace refractories from the beginning when starting with Quigley Co. following graduation.

His 28 years with Riverside allowed him to work with low cement castables, cement free products, shotcrete materials and blast furnace taphole clays. Experience with furnaces worldwide has made him an expert of blast furnace taphole clays. 

Mike has been active in ACerS Refractory Ceramic division, having held all offices in the division and maintaining participation throughout the years. He is involved as a member of the UNITECR (Unified International Technical Conference on Refractories) North American board and current member of the ACerS board of directors. Mike is also president-elect of the Society.

He has served on ASTM C08 Refractories committee and is a member of AIST (Association for Iron and Steel Technology) and AFS(American Foundry Society).

His active participation would not have been possible without the support of his wife of nearly 25 years, Cathy Alexander, who has always maintained the home and family in Birmingham AL.
