Michael Trammell is the Director of Additive Manufacturing in the Core Division of Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC). He and his team are responsible for the binder jet printing process used to fabricate fuel and core components for USNC’s advanced nuclear energy systems. Prior to joining USNC, Michael was a Research Engineer at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory from 2002 to 2021, where he focused on development of materials and fabrication methods to produce fuel for advanced reactor concepts in terrestrial and space applications. During his time at ORNL, he worked on several fuel development programs such as the Advanced Gas Reactor (AGR) and Transformational Challenge Reactor (TCR) programs. He also led the extrusion development efforts at ORNL for the NASA NTP project to produce a graphite-ZrC composite fuel element that was successfully tested in NASA’s Nuclear Thermal Rocket Environmental Simulator (NTREES). Michael holds a M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His interests include technology and development to enable advanced design and deployment of nuclear system.
