Qiang Fu

Dr. Qiang Fu is a Senior Research Associate at Corning Inc. He received his BS and MS in Materials Science from Tongji University (Shanghai, China), and Ph.D. in Ceramic Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology (Rolla, MO). He conducted his postdoctoral research at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley, CA) before joining Corning Incorporated in 2011.

He was awarded in 2013 the Elsevier Materials Science and Engineering C Young Researcher Award.  In 2016, he was selected as the recipient of the Woldemar A. Weyl International Glass Science Award from the International Commission on Glass (ICG) and the S. Donald Stookey Award from Corning Incorporated.

His research focuses on chemically strengthened glass and glass-ceramics, bioactive glass and ceramics, and processing and mechanical properties of functional materials. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed papers. He is an inventor or a co-inventor of 36 granted US patents on new glass, glass-ceramics, and manufacturing processes. Working with his colleagues, he has invented novel glass-ceramic compositions including “Ceramic Shield” for a key consumer electronics customer; and novel glass compositions for Corning’s Gorilla^® Glass and Life Science businesses.
