Shuai Ren is currently a PhD candidate and has just passed his PhD thesis defense at Frontier Institute for Science and Technology, Xi’an Jiaotong University, China.

He received his B.E. degree from School of Materials Science and Engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2009. During his doctoral period, he spent four years at National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in Japan as a visiting student. So far he has published 12 papers in major journals, including Nature Communications, Physical Review Letters, Acta Materialia, Physical Review B.

During his doctoral period, he explored a wide range of ferroic materials including shape memory alloys, strain glass, magnetostrictive materials, and piezoelectric materials. His main findings include low-field-triggered large magnetostriction based on a novel mechanism of ferromagnetic strain glass, novel sandwich-like strain glass phase diagram, and high performance Pb-free piezoceramics.
