Tohru S. Suzuki is a group leader of the Ceramics Processing Group, Research Center for Functional Materials at National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in Tsukuba, Japan and a professor of Department of Nanoscience and Nanoengieering, the Graduate school of Advanced Science and Technology at Waseda University. He received his Ph. D. in 1995 at materials science and engineering from Waseda University in Japan. After working as an assistant professor at Waseda University, he joined National Research Institute for Metals in 1996, which was reorganized into NIMS in 2000. He was a visiting researcher at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory during 2000-2001.

Dr. Suzuki has published more than 250 original journal articles, more than 30 reviewed papers and 17 patents. His primary fields of research are ceramic processing for controlling the microstructure including the crystallographic orientation using colloidal processing and a strong magnetic field, and densification by spark plasma sintering for transparent ceramics.

Dr. Suzuki is a member of the Engineering Ceramics Division and has received Global Star Award in 2017. He is a member of symposium organizer on ICACC, PACRIM, GFMAT and ICC. He has received The Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2007, CerSJ Awards for academic achievements in ceramic science and technology in 2014 from The Ceramic Society of Japan (CSJ), and several awards from Japan Society of Powder and Powder Metallurgy. He is a Fellow of CSJ and a deputy editor in chief of Journal of the Ceramic Society of Japan.
