Katoh_Y_125Yutai Katoh is currently a research staff member in the Materials Science and Technology Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee.

Dr. Katoh received his Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Tokyo, Japan, in 1994. Before moving to ORNL in 2003, he was an Associate Professor at Kyoto University, Japan (1996 – 2003). He had earlier appointments as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Tokyo and Assistant Professor at the National Institute for Fusion Science, Japan (1995 – 1996). He has published more than 250 peer-reviewed papers and is included in the 2013 list of highly cited researchers compiled by ISI Thomson Reuters. Dr. Katoh holds 14 patents and has several patents pending in the area of ceramic and composite processing.

He is affiliated with the Engineering Ceramics Division and the Nuclear and Environmental Technology Division of The American Ceramic Society. He is also a member of the American Society for Testing and Materials; The Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society; and the American Nuclear Society.

Dr. Katoh’s research interests and activities span broad areas of materials science and engineering for advanced energy systems, with particular emphases on advanced ceramics, ceramic composites, and irradiation effects in materials for fusion and fission reactors.
