Dr. Zibin Chen is currently a research fellow in the University of Sydney, Sydney, NSW, Australia.

Dr. Zibin Chen conducted his MPhil and PhD research in the field of material science and engineering in the University of Sydney under the supervision of Prof. Xiaozhou Liao and received his PhD degree in 2017. After his PhD, he worked in the University of Sydney as a postdoctoral research associate until he joined Scitek Australia Pty Ltd, a world leader in vacuum technology and surface science technology, as an application scientist in December 2017. He returned to academia as a research fellow in University of Sydney in September 2019 working on the electron microscopy of additive manufactured materials. He was awarded a Chinese government overseas private students scholarship for his PhD research. He has published over 20 papers that have been collectively cited more than 600 times. He has published high-quality papers in top journals including Nature Materials, Physical Review Letters, Physical Review Applied, and Acta Materialia.

Dr. Chen’s research interest focuses on ex-situ and in-situ electron microscopy characterisation of the structures and structure–property relationships of advanced materials including metal alloys and ferroelectric materials. The major goal of his research is to design additive manufacturing materials with structures that provide very high strength and excellent ductility as well as to tackle fundamental science questions in the field of ferroelectric materials.
