Prof. JinYong Zhang graduated from the Wuhan University of Technology, China, in 2002 and received a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, and then worked in the University for five years as lecture, reader and Professor. In 2007, he went to University of Oxford, UK, as a visiting scholar for one year. At there, He cooperated with Prof. Richard Todd and started to investigate the novel fast-sintering technologies. After that, He came back to the Wuhan University of Technology. Now, he still is a Professor of Materials of this University.

In the past 20 years, his main research interests focus on the properties and processing of structural ceramics including Borides, Carbides, high entropy ceramics, FGM ceramics. He achieved the “Invention Prizes Award of The Ministry of Education of China (2014)” and Award of National Technology Invention Prizes(2015)” for his outstanding works on the novel processing of ceramics and high performance ceramics.

He and his cooperators firstly used the Self-propagating High temperature combustion Synthesis (SHS) as a heating source to develop a new fast sintering method without extra electro/magnetic field as that of Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) and Flash sintering, giving a useful way to investigate the nature of the fast sintering e.g. and Flash-SPS. They found that the rapid heating individual can led to an ultra-fast densification. This work gives some inspirations for the popular 3D additive sintering of ceramics. Besides the awarded paper, he still has other 12 publications on the fast sintering in the J Am Ceram Soc, J Eu Ceram Soc, Ceramics International and Scripta Materialia and so on; it is a series work.
