The August 2023 issue of ACerS Bulletin is now available online.

In this month’s issue, we look at the supply chains for raw materials that will play an important role in the clean energy transition. The cover story by Bulletin editor Eileen De Guire considers how governments and companies around the world are working to ensure a steady supply of lithium. An accompanying story by Bulletin associate managing editor Lisa McDonald explores the role that Chile will play as a top producer of copper and lithium.

The columns in this issue expand on the topic. The “Deciphering the Discipline” column by student Graciela Martinez dives more deeply into how scientists can improve both the extraction and application of lithium. The “Business and Market View” column describes the steps that the mining industry must take to achieve their pledged adoption of environmental, social, and governance practices.

The August issue features the annual United States Geological Survey Mineral Commodity Summaries. The section opens with a summary of the main trends discussed in this year’s 2023 report and is followed by a table highlighting several salient statistics, including end use industries, global production trends, and leading producers.
